Many people come to live in Spain expecting to live happily ever after. But moving to a different country, with its own culture and language, can be extremely stressful. The support networks of friends and family which existed in the UK take time to replace. Couples are more dependent on each other which can place pressure on their relationships. Some people find it difficult to cope with their increased leisure time. Perhaps, they feel guilty for being miserable when they "should" be enjoying themselves. Maybe, they expected to leave a troubled past behind them when they left Britain for the sun. The fact is psychological and emotional problems exist even in paradise. And at times it may be necessary to seek professional help. |
